Madame Fate is the towns local fortune teller at the carnival and she is convinced that at the stroke of midnight she is going to die and it's up to you to find the person who wants Madame Fate died. There are 15 carnival workers who will need to be investigated. The mermaid is worried that her affair is going to come out into the open, The bearded lady is jealous of Madame Fate's success within the carnival and the carnivals magician is worried that Madame Fate will cost him his job. All these people and more have reason for wanting Madame Fate died.

Madame Fate is different from previous MCF games because you are investigating a crime that has not yet taken place although gameplay is similar to other games. Each worker at the carnival will need to be investigated by searching the grounds for clues. Once all the clues for a worker has been found you will then take them back to Madame Fate where she will use her crystal ball to determine the workers fate. You will need to complete a puzzle because the crystal ball will reveal what it knows.

To gain access to each of the workers rooms you will need to complete a puzzle that will unlock the door. After entering each room you will be given a list of the same objects to find for example 10 razors or 10 paperclips.

Mystery Case Files Madame Fate introduced a new feature. Some scenes will have smaller scenes inside them that also need to be investigated. Another new feature is that items sometimes change shape such as an apple into an orange. Clicking on enough of these items will unlock other locations within the carnival.

Just like the last game in the series "Ravenhearst" you get 5 hints but the hint does not point out exactly where the item is, instead it will show a glowing circle around the area where you can find the item.
